Sustainability
Because of my concern for environment and sustainability I began using my art in activist ways to create pieces that comment on and engage the viewer in thinking about these and many other important issues. For a time I painted bowls, bones, suitcases and chairs, reawakening otherwise discarded items and thus promoting recycling.
As a founding member of Stella Maris Artist Co-operative Gallery on Pender Island, I organized an auction for Friends of Clayoquot, highlighted eco feminism in a series of Legendary Wild Women, painted animal masks for Salt Spring Women’s Calendar and art cards for Solid. These works raised money to save our forests and support orphans in Africa.
In 1996, my company Green Goddess Productions printed art cards promoting the use of hemp for food, medicine, clothing and paper.
