Public Art
Excited by the power of art to change and transform, I love creating public art. I researched Salt Spring Islands butterflies and their habitat and painted a mural for Island Savings Credit Union highlighting a moment in the life of 25 local butterflies. This serves to not only beautify a once ugly graffiti-filled parking lot wall, but helps to inform and educate visitors and residents about our island’s wonderful, fragile creatures and eco systems.
After marking the waters of the Skeena River, a decommissioned canbuoy was installed at the entrance to the SSI Harbour Authority. My ‘above and below the waterline’ Landmark mural shows fish, marine mammals, birds and a variety of vessels that ply our waters.
In Greenwoods, a SSI residential care facility, I created an inviting entrance for staff, visitors and clients that also incorporates specific ideas for meeting the needs of the many patients with dementia.
I love seeing my art traversing the island, whether on cars, vans, trailers or signage in our world famous market; and while travelling the world, I try to beautify wherever I go.
