Current Projects

Spectator

The Spectator Project explores Self, in relationship to a temporal and spatial connection in history and with nature. It consists of 39 reawakened school chairs, painted with the portraits of historical icons. A tri-part film plays behind the audience. The viewer is invited to add their story in this multi-level conversation amongst spectators.

Garden Suite

The Garden Suite is an installation of 70 paintings. of flowers, vegetables, fruits, butterflies and birds. Each series is painted in a 7-note colour scale. I am working on an interactive screen where participants may create their own version of the Garden Suite playing colours and sound in various combinations.

Artivism

Public Art

I love seeing my art traversing the island, whether on cars, vans, trailers or signage in our world famous market; and while travelling the world, I try to beautify wherever I go.

Apple Festival

Each year I take part in the SSI Apple Festival, brainchild of Harry Burton of Apple Luscious Orchard. Captain Apple as he is lovingly known has reawakened the great apple growing history of the island dating back to 1860. This one day event draws thousands of apple lovers to explore the over 450 varieties organically grown and displayed at Fulford Hall and to meet farmers as they meander through the many orchards on the tour.

Peace

I treasure my quest for peace in this life. Through the contemplation of nature, meditation on the Divine, and the practice of art I develop personal peace in my relationships with self and others. I pray for World Peace as the cessation of war or violence. I often make art from found objects and utilize religious books and symbols to promote the desire of all religions to foster peace.

Feminism

I believe my art comes out of my life’s experiences, is intricately woven with my thoughts, feelings, sensual memories and spiritual insights. As a woman growing up in a patriarchal society, I have experienced degradation, abuse and inequality because of my sex.

Sustainability

Because of my concern for environment and sustainability I began using my art in activist ways to create pieces that comment on and engage the viewer in thinking about these and many other important issues. For a time I painted bowls, bones, suitcases and chairs, reawakening otherwise discarded items and thus promoting recycling.

As an arts-based researcher and auto-ethnographer I continue to explore the conscious, sub-conscious and spiritual self. Through my art practice I not only express myself I glean/communicate important information about myself and my connection to humanity and the natural world.
